The European Union (EU) has committed to strengthening trade relations with Asian countries in recent years. This step aims not only to increase bilateral trade, but also to strengthen economic cooperation more broadly. In an increasingly complex global context, this relationship becomes increasingly important for both parties. One of the EU’s concrete steps is through free trade agreements with various Asian countries. For example, the agreement with South Korea signed in 2011, which opened market access for European and Asian products. With the elimination of tariffs, both countries experienced a significant increase in trade volume. The EU is also seeking to establish similar partnerships with countries such as Vietnam and Japan, each of which offers large markets and high economic growth potential. Investment is the main focus point in this trade relationship. The EU is turning attention to strategic sectors such as green technology, renewable energy and innovation. This supports the EU’s sustainability agenda while creating new opportunities for European companies looking to operate in Asia. Through the Horizon Europe program, the EU provides funding for research and innovation projects involving Asian partners. The existence of multilateral forums is also very important. The European Union actively participates in the ASEAN-EU Business Summit and the G20, which provides a platform for business and government leaders to exchange ideas and forge partnerships. In this context, issues such as fair trade, environmental protection, and human rights protection are often the focus of discussion. Approval of the Unified Trade Regulation is also an important step to increase transparency and efficiency in trade. This regulation is designed to simplify procedures and reduce trade barriers, thereby facilitating the exchange of goods and services between the EU and Asian countries. With these attributes, it is hoped that there will be an increase in bilateral investment that will benefit both parties. In addition, the European Union is strengthening cooperation in the digital sector by launching the Digital Global Gateway initiative. The goal is to expand the digital infrastructure connecting Europe with Asia, facilitating data exchange and creating a mutually beneficial digital ecosystem. This closer relationship is also visible in collaboration in the health and research sectors. Especially since the COVID-19 pandemic, the EU and Asian countries, such as India and Japan, have strengthened cooperation on vaccine development and public health strategies. This approach not only improves public health resilience, but also increases scientific exchange between the two regions. In terms of education, student exchanges and scholarship programs such as Erasmus+ are bringing closer ties between Europe and Asia. This program allows students to study abroad, which in turn strengthens cultural understanding and encourages long-term collaboration in various fields. With all these efforts, the European Union shows its commitment to not only improve trade relations with Asian countries, but also to promote values such as sustainability, innovation and international collaboration. This approach generates new opportunities for companies and countries on both sides, leading to shared prosperity in an increasingly interconnected era.
